If I were to ask you what prints scream summer to you, what would your answer be? I’m willing to bet that gingham and florals would both be in the top 3 replies. Well looky here, because this Golightly dress from Unique Vintage serves up both!

The Golightly dress is one of Unique Vintage’s staple dress shapes that returns each spring/summer with new prints. This season (so far, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn there may be more prints coming) there is this red rose and black & white gingham print on offer, as well as a turquoise blue fabric printed with pink strawberries. Anyone who has even a slight sense of my style would be able to predict it’d be this gingham pretty I’d plump for given the chance, and here she is, in all her hybrid-print glory.

The joy of the Golightly dress isn’t just in her lovely summery feel, but in her construction. While the gathered sweetheart bustline boasts a darling, large bow, the shoulder straps hold the secret of being both adjustable and removable. The end of each strap has a button in both the front and back that allow you to remove the straps entirely, or adjust their fit by about 2 inches overall by selecting which of 3 buttonholes works best for you. There are pockets in the lusciously full gathered skirt, which can take a medium-full volume petticoat with ease, but moves and lays beautifully without one if you just can’t bear to wear additional layers on a hot day.

Finally, and thankfully, there are two smocked panels in the back of the bodice, located on either side of the hidden central zipper, which are ready and willing to stretch, stretch, stretch. Whether that means you get a little extra help in choosing the right size or just feel totally comfortable throughout the day no matter your position, body temperature or food intake, the elastic in these panels is here to help.

I asked for this dress in the 1X rather than my usual Unique Vintage size 2X because of those shirred elasticated panels. Both the 1X and 2X would have made for good fits in different ways, as this 1X fits my waist well but is tight on my bust, and the measurements listed for the 2X sound like they might have been a touch loose on the waist but would’ve been perfect in the bust. In person this 1X measures 36 inches flat in the waist with stretch to about 38 inches, while the bust measures 34 inches flat but can stretch to 44 inches because of the elasticated panels. The skirt is 26.5 inches long. The size chart is accurate when compared with these measurements I’ve taken, so I would size according to your largest measurement because the panels do provide stretch but the 100% cotton fabric itself has none.
