I love it when companies return to dress styles they’ve made before and give them a new lease of life for new seasons. The Violetta dress was one of my favourites from Hell Bunny spring/summer line last year, a simple, flattering sundress with a full skirt and pockets–what more could you ask for? Well this spring Violetta has become Tora, swapping sweetness for sass.

The Tora dress boasts, apart from the obvious tiger print, a sweetheart neckline, contrast black adjustable shoulder straps, a full gathered skirt that takes a full volume petticoat with ease, and pockets. The latter, as always, deserves to be celebrated with gusto. The Violetta 50s dress from last spring’s line featured a sweet bow where each shoulder strap met the bust, but for the Tora 50s dress that bow feature has been moved up onto the top of the shoulder strap. The bows run in the same direction as the strap so they won’t create an unsightly bump if you layer this dress up with a cardigan or anything similar, but the stitching keeping them in place could be easily unpicked if you wanted to remove them for any reason.
I always love when shoulder straps are adjustable because it makes such a big difference to the fit of a dress. The volume of the skirt is so wonderful that I would happily wear this dress without a petticoat, something I almost never do, even during heatwaves, so that makes this a rare piece in my wardrobe for that reason alone. For these photos, though, I wore a slim-medium basic petticoat to give you an idea of the shape the skirt can achieve. Likewise, though this dress is part of Hell Bunny’s spring/summer line, you can see from my styling that it can be worn year round without any extensive stretching of your stylistic imagination needed. I added the belt from one of my other Hell Bunny dresses, so please note it doesn’t come with one.
I asked for this dress in my usual Hell Bunny 18/2XL and it’s a comfortable fit. It flat measures 38 inches in the waist with just a touch of give, and 45 inches flat in the bust with a couple inches of stretch. The skirt is 26.25 inches long.
The Tora 50s dress comes in sizes XS-4XL. The same print is also available as a gathered skirt, the Tora 50s skirt, in the same size range, or in a sleeveless collared mini dress, the Tora mini dress.
