Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Crayons *Pink Edition* Swatches

Maybelline has followed their stealthy, under-promoted release of new Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick shades with a small release of new shades for their Superstay Matte Ink Crayons. This Pink Edition release comprises of 4 new colours, Speak Your Mind, Run the World, Change is Good, and Keep It Fun. I snatched up all 4 recently and have got swatches for you aplenty to help you figure out if any of these new shades are destined for your lipstick collection. Let’s go!

They’re all pretty subtle shades that will function well as daily-wear colours, performing in the ‘my lips but better’ arena. On my skin tone Speak Your Mind offers a subtle nod to the idea of raspberry pink lips without reaching for the richness or depth of a true berry shade; Run The World offers a touch more mid-pink than my lips naturally have; Change is Good hints at coral without any of its brightness; and Keep It Fun definitely functions as a My Lips colour, perfect for when I’m wearing just enough makeup that my lips need something, but I don’t want anything eye-catching.

75 – Speak Your Mind

80 – Run The World

85 – Change is Good

90 – Keep It Fun

I know they don’t look massively different from one another above, so here are some swatches of 4 new Pink Edition shades compared to all the existing similar pinks I have from the first 12-shade release.

As you can see once compared to existing shades, the new colours do fill some gaps in the pink shade range.

If you live in the UK you’ll be pleased to know Superdrug is running a 2 for £12 promotion across most Maybelline lipsticks at the moment (including the liquid lipstick version of the Matte Inks, the newest shades of which I also swatched recently) and Boots is offering 3 for 2 on selected Maybelline.

Have you picked up any of the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Crayons? Do you prefer them over their liquid lipstick counterpart?

  3. Thank you SO much for providing a review of this product; along with wonderful photos of you, wearing each shade. I have difficulty with discerning the differences between lip colors and you’ve made this much easier.

  4. Your swatches helped me choose my colors because you labeled them. There are a lot of swatches on the internet but not labeled and the wands were pictures but their color name or number did not show. Thank you! (I find these pencils do last a long time and though they are matte, I can use a Burt’s Bees lip balm (Grapefruit) between my lips so there’s no cracking.)

    • Oh yay, I’m glad to hear that. That annoys me with swatches too, it’s why I always try to remember to label them, even if only in the caption when I’m short on time

  5. Hello Amy, I’m a long-time lurker on your lovely website and really enjoy your content. This thread is not one of your recent ones, but I just wanted to add, yes I’ve tried these matte ink crayons and I do like them – esp. No. 40, Laugh Louder. A warmish, bright red, for me a holy grail red! If you smudge it on your hand, there’s no pink, blue or neon-coral residue. BUT I do find that if I’m having a dry skin day (ie. busy, stressed etc…)it feathers into lines, just a little. But for me (in my 50s) it’s more flattering than your fave matte inks, which are a bit too matte and full-on for me. Thanks for the review and all the best from Surrey!
