Sometimes it takes me a while to hear about a new makeup product that I ostensibly would be interested in because 1) due to Covid, I’ve only gone into a drug store twice in the past 2 years, and 2) I hardly ever scroll on social media anymore, because it never shows me the accounts I actually follow, so if Robert Welsh isn’t mentioning it in one of his videos and I’m not seeing it in an ad on my feeds, I’m likely not hearing about it. Whenever I see a new liquid lipstick that claims to be transfer-proof I immediately get excited. Sleek is a smaller UK brand that I don’t think I’ve bought from in probably 8-10 years–in fact, I’m pretty sure the last thing I tried from them at that time was a liquid matte lipstick that disappointed me, so I haven’t thought of them since. I got served an ad on social media recently, however, for Sleek’s new Matte Me XXL liquid lipstick, and since the ad specifically stated that it’s a budge-proof formula I decided to give it a try. I discovered the other day, completely by accident, that there has been more than one release of new shades of L’Oreal’s Signature Rouge matte liquid lipstick that I wasn’t aware of. I do most of my online beauty shopping on Superdrug, but they didn’t have any of the new shades I had stumbled upon elsewhere, only the new Brilliant range of Signature Rouge lipsticks which have a glossy finish rather than a matte. Down the rabbit hole I went trying to figure out, almost obsessively, what I had missed, how many reds I was now sorely lacking, and how I could find them. Lucky for you, I’m going to fill you in on everything I found.
According to L’Oreal Paris’s social media accounts their newest release for the Signature Rouge Matte liquid lipstick range is the Empowered Collection, comprised entirely of reds and pinks. I’ve managed to get 4 of the shades from this collection; 136 Armored, 137 Red, 139 Honored, and 139 Adored. I’m not just being weird about those names, they’ve really leaned into highlighting the RED of it all. I haven’t been able to confirm the shade range for certain, but I believe there might be 9 shades in total in this collection.
Maybelline has followed their stealthy, under-promoted release of new Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick shades with a small release of new shades for their Superstay Matte Ink Crayons. This Pink Edition release comprises of 4 new colours, Speak Your Mind, Run the World, Change is Good, and Keep It Fun. I snatched up all 4 recently and have got swatches for you aplenty to help you figure out if any of these new shades are destined for your lipstick collection. Let’s go!
My favourite lipstick is the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick, so much so that I own all of the colours that could conceivably work for me (which is 18 of them) and buy back-ups of my favourites every time I can’t decide on a third item to buy when I’m shopping Superdrug’s 3 for 2 deal. While doing exactly that this past weekend, I noticed what looked to be 4 new colours; 140 Soloist, 145 Front Runner, 150 Pathfinder and 155 Savant. I quickly googled to see if I had somehow missed a new release and could find no information on these shades. I immediately put in an order and when they arrived I quickly snapped pictures to share with you. Continue reading →
If there’s one thing for which I can be relied upon, it’s trying out new liquid lipstick formulas I don’t need because a) I already own ‘too many’ lipsticks, and b) I already have 2 liquid lipstick formulas in my collection I absolutely love. There’s always the promise, though, the slight chance that a new product might not only live up to my existing favourites but possibly, just maybe, have that one additional factor that tops them. It’s very unlikely, but we can all dream, can’t we? Continue reading →

I’ll warn you all up front that this is going to be a quick review that lacks some of the images or details I would usually like to include in a new product review because these lipsticks aren’t just new, they’re NEW new. To the extent that when I was in Superdrug this morning and noticed these Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayons, it was something that surprised me–not only had I not heard any pre-release hype about them online but once I did a quick google, I couldn’t find anything about them. There’s been some great new drugstore makeup releases over the last few months, including some new liner and liquid lipstick products. Even though I’ve found my favourite makeup products that I reach for time and again after 4 years of wearing winged liner and red lips, I still regularly find myself curious enough to try new drugstore products of this ilk.
I often get asked what my favourite red lipstick is and my reply of ‘Saigon’ or ‘Creeper’ Ultra Mattes by Colourpop isn’t as accessible for many, especially European readers, as a brand available on the high street or in your local mall, so I’m pleased to bring you great news today about Rimmel’s StayMatte liquid lipstick range. Their Wonder Wing liner pen, though? Hmm, that might be more of a mixed bag review. Let’s get to it.

L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Gloss might be a bit of a mouthful as a product name, but it’s not messing around when it comes to providing a lip-full of colour.
As the name suggests, this lip colour is a matte strongly pigmented gloss–but, it’s
also kind of a liquid lipstick. Matte liquid lipsticks tend to be highly pigmented, long-lasting, and quite dry on the lips, since the matte finish and long-wear formula doesn’t allow for much moisture. The difference with this L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Gloss is that it really does seem to feel like half-gloss, half-liquid lipstick, taking the positives from both formula types to leave you with a comfortable, well-wearing product that stays put, doesn’t smudge and stays vibrant. I tested out 2 shades, Instinct, a vibrant red-tinted orange, and Bazaar, a warm mid-toned pink, to see how they applied and wore. Continue reading →
I love to wear long-lasting liquid lipsticks, so when I took my recent trip to America I expected to pick up a liquid lipstick from almost every brand that offers them, knowing that many don’t ship to the UK or only do so at the extortionate shipping costs of $30+ even for one lipstick. A few weeks before I was due to fly out I saw ColourPop post pictures of their newest shades of UItra Matte liquid lipsticks on Instagram. ‘More Better’ was a pretty, wearable rich berry shade it’s not easy to find in a liquid lipstick, and at $5.99 a pop I figured it was worth ordering a few other shades to try along with More Better. With free shipping over $30, I went ahead and ordered 5 shades outright. I figured that was only $10 more to order those 5 than it cost to buy a single tube at the $20 a pop that a lot of the stateside cosmetic companies charge. As it turns out, I had just purchased a handful of my new favourites.
