My favourite lipstick is the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipstick, so much so that I own all of the colours that could conceivably work for me (which is 18 of them) and buy back-ups of my favourites every time I can’t decide on a third item to buy when I’m shopping Superdrug’s 3 for 2 deal. While doing exactly that this past weekend, I noticed what looked to be 4 new colours; 140 Soloist, 145 Front Runner, 150 Pathfinder and 155 Savant. I quickly googled to see if I had somehow missed a new release and could find no information on these shades. I immediately put in an order and when they arrived I quickly snapped pictures to share with you. Continue reading →
If there’s one thing for which I can be relied upon, it’s trying out new liquid lipstick formulas I don’t need because a) I already own ‘too many’ lipsticks, and b) I already have 2 liquid lipstick formulas in my collection I absolutely love. There’s always the promise, though, the slight chance that a new product might not only live up to my existing favourites but possibly, just maybe, have that one additional factor that tops them. It’s very unlikely, but we can all dream, can’t we? Continue reading →

I’ll warn you all up front that this is going to be a quick review that lacks some of the images or details I would usually like to include in a new product review because these lipsticks aren’t just new, they’re NEW new. To the extent that when I was in Superdrug this morning and noticed these Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayons, it was something that surprised me–not only had I not heard any pre-release hype about them online but once I did a quick google, I couldn’t find anything about them. There’s been some great new drugstore makeup releases over the last few months, including some new liner and liquid lipstick products. Even though I’ve found my favourite makeup products that I reach for time and again after 4 years of wearing winged liner and red lips, I still regularly find myself curious enough to try new drugstore products of this ilk.
I often get asked what my favourite red lipstick is and my reply of ‘Saigon’ or ‘Creeper’ Ultra Mattes by Colourpop isn’t as accessible for many, especially European readers, as a brand available on the high street or in your local mall, so I’m pleased to bring you great news today about Rimmel’s StayMatte liquid lipstick range. Their Wonder Wing liner pen, though? Hmm, that might be more of a mixed bag review. Let’s get to it.

L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Gloss might be a bit of a mouthful as a product name, but it’s not messing around when it comes to providing a lip-full of colour.
As the name suggests, this lip colour is a matte strongly pigmented gloss–but, it’s
also kind of a liquid lipstick. Matte liquid lipsticks tend to be highly pigmented, long-lasting, and quite dry on the lips, since the matte finish and long-wear formula doesn’t allow for much moisture. The difference with this L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Gloss is that it really does seem to feel like half-gloss, half-liquid lipstick, taking the positives from both formula types to leave you with a comfortable, well-wearing product that stays put, doesn’t smudge and stays vibrant. I tested out 2 shades, Instinct, a vibrant red-tinted orange, and Bazaar, a warm mid-toned pink, to see how they applied and wore. Continue reading →
I love to wear long-lasting liquid lipsticks, so when I took my recent trip to America I expected to pick up a liquid lipstick from almost every brand that offers them, knowing that many don’t ship to the UK or only do so at the extortionate shipping costs of $30+ even for one lipstick. A few weeks before I was due to fly out I saw ColourPop post pictures of their newest shades of UItra Matte liquid lipsticks on Instagram. ‘More Better’ was a pretty, wearable rich berry shade it’s not easy to find in a liquid lipstick, and at $5.99 a pop I figured it was worth ordering a few other shades to try along with More Better. With free shipping over $30, I went ahead and ordered 5 shades outright. I figured that was only $10 more to order those 5 than it cost to buy a single tube at the $20 a pop that a lot of the stateside cosmetic companies charge. As it turns out, I had just purchased a handful of my new favourites.
I’ve reviewed/mentioned the Makeup Academy Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers several times. For those who don’t know, they’re a liquid to matte lipstick by UK company Makeup Academy, costing £3 and available in over 10 shades, several of which are dupes for shades made by other well known matte liquid lipstick toting brands. The pigmentation of these have always been great and for the bargain price they’re a wonderful product. However, I do tend to find that they can flake a little during wear, particularly when eating, and multiple touch up applications can give you that rubbery layered lipstick feel, so I only usually wear mine when I know I will be wearing the product for a very short period of time or when I won’t be eating a lot.
They recently brought out 4 new shades (Zest, Vivacity, Potent and Symphonic) and gave the packaging a slight revamp. I ordered all of the new shades except the grey Symphonic and noticed that, along with the packaging revamp, there seemed to be a formula change which isn’t mentioned on the website or product. Considering this, I thought I’d give you a full run down on everything involved in the new shades and the revamp.
