L’Oreal Signature Rouge Matte Liquid Lipstick [Review + Swatches]

If there’s one thing for which I can be relied upon, it’s trying out new liquid lipstick formulas I don’t need because a) I already own ‘too many’ lipsticks, and b) I already have 2 liquid lipstick formulas in my collection I absolutely love. There’s always the promise, though, the slight chance that a new product might not only live up to my existing favourites but possibly, just maybe, have that one additional factor that tops them. It’s very unlikely, but we can all dream, can’t we? Continue reading

Makeup Faves: Edition III

makeupfaves3s

It’s been a long time since I’ve done an edition of my newly discovered makeup faves, but there hasn’t been a lot to update you on as I’ve been mostly using my favourite products from the last editions on repeat. I have found a few good new products here and there, though, so it’s finally time for another round.

My Magic 7 – Top Lasting Lipsticks

I’m obsessed with lasting lipsticks. Once upon a time I didn’t wear lipstick ever and I was terrified of the idea of accidental smudging from forgetful touches in the same way you can sometimes forget you’re wearing eye makeup and accidentally threaten the integrity of your perfectly filled in brows with a mindless swipe. Now that I’m used to wearing lip products such a worry doesn’t concern me so much, but I do have steeply curved upper lips and a tendency to be overly expressive with my lips which combined means inner corner transfer of colour is a true threat. Plus, I do actually eat. Y’all know that. And I can’t be dealing with a lipstick that’s gonna wear half off every time I take a gulp of water or eat half a cookie. So I’m all about long-lasting lipsticks, especially if they’re affordable.

I’ve tried a hell of a lot of them, and more often than not I’ve come away feeling disappointed by the unmet claims from the advertisements and feeling gypped to have unloaded another unnecessary tenner from my wallet. But all my trying and testing does mean that there are some products I’ve found which I love, and those are products I return to over and over again. After months of meaning to get around to a lipstick master post letting you know my favourites, finally it’s here. Below are my magic 7 lip products that I love. Why 7? If you have to ask that you have obviously never read Harry Potter. (Also, it just so happens I have literally listed every product I switch back and forth between constantly and that happens to be 7 products, but you know, the ‘7 is the most magically powerful number’ thing as well. That too.)

The Best Kept Secret In Lasting Lipsticks

I am a long lasting lipstick junkie. I try almost every lipstick or liquid lipstick I can get my hands on that claims to be touchproof, wearproof, budge-proof, kiss-proof…on and on. More often than not they do smudge. And when they don’t, as is the case with liquid lipsticks, they have a tendency to flake off as you eat, which can leave your lips not only patchy but also your teeth covered in little red flakes. Just what every girl wants! Except not.

I’ve covered the Lime Crime Velvetines, their Make Up Academy Luxe Lip Lacquer dupes, and Maybelline 14 hour Superstay lipsticks on the blog before, and these are all great products available across a decent range of prices with brilliant staying power.

I was doing some online beauty shopping the other day and needed to add a couple of quid worth of products to my basket to qualify for free delivery. There’s not much a couple of pounds can get you from the makeup aisle, so I chose a Collection (formerly Collection 2000) Lasting Lipstick in shade Queen of Hearts, thinking that for £2.99 I would at least be getting a nice shade red lipstick even if it didn’t last, as I suspected it wouldn’t.

But Oh. My. God. I am in love. So unexpectedly in love.

My Fave Beauty Products: Edition 1

1favesall

For those who don’t know me very well they might not know that I have a slight makeup addiction. I own far too much makeup for a normal woman who doesn’t use it in any professional capacity, having multiple storage drawers and boxes housing endless lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, mascaras, blushers…it goes on and on. Part of why I have so much makeup isn’t simply that I love it, but also that I have a habit of trying out new products hoping their stellar claims for flawless skin or sky high lashes really will ring true and I will have discovered another Holy Grail beauty product. Often, I’m sure you’ll agree with me, the hype on a new product can fall flat, leading either to total disappointment or simply to a product you like just fine but doesn’t beat out your other favourites.

So for this reason I thought I’d do a post showing you my favourite all time products that I always repurchase as well as some new discoveries I’ve really liked. Hopefully it will clue you in on some good quality products you didn’t know about, or maybe answer questions about products you’ve have heard of but haven’t tried. Continue reading

Lime Crime Velvetines Review & Dupes Comparison

The Lime Crime Velvetines are one of those beauty products that are spoken of in two tones; hushed, reverent whispers (generally by those of us who can do nothing but yearn, wish, wonder–and occasionally check our bank balance, then weep) and vibrant, voracious shouts that proclaim it to be the Holy Grail of all lip products, shouts that urge thee to set down your life before the Velvetines for thy Velvetines have come to save thee.

Basically, they’re supposed to be good. Really, really good. Sell-your-soul-good. But we women have heard this before, haven’t we? About a dozen different mascaras, three kinds of eye liners, about fifty different foundations that claim they will vanish your pores and give you the complexion of a softly kissed and freshly birthed newborn. Personally, few beauty items ever live up to the hype for me, and that is why I have resisted purchasing a Velvetine until now, despite being a red lipstick loving pinup girl. I just couldn’t believe this magical product could really be as Dumbledoretastic as it claimed, and at $20 a tube, or £13.50 here in the UK, plus £3.50 shipping, as it’s pretty damn hard to track them down even online, paying £17 to be disappointed just seemed too steep an inevitable price for me. I’m a thrifty girl. I like to buy lots of pretty things if I can, rather than one pretty thing, where possible. It’s the grew-up-poor kid in me. Continue reading
