I’ll warn you all up front that this is going to be a quick review that lacks some of the images or details I would usually like to include in a new product review because these lipsticks aren’t just new, they’re NEW new. To the extent that when I was in Superdrug this morning and noticed these Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayons, it was something that surprised me–not only had I not heard any pre-release hype about them online but once I did a quick google, I couldn’t find anything about them. Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte Ink liquid lipstick has been raved about on every social media platform and beauty vlog since its release last year. Honestly, if you haven’t tried it already I’d be really surprised, but going by the number of women who ask me for lipstick recommendations who then say they hadn’t tried this product there’s still some of you out there who haven’t taken the leap. The new Un-Nudes range of shades has just launched here in the UK so I decided it was time to whip up a quick review for those of you who might be unconvinced this product is worth all the hype.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done one of these (uh, last April) and there’s lots of new items I’ve found that I love so let’s waste no more time. Here are all my latest favourites of the new products I’ve tried in the past few months. Continue reading
It’s been a little while since I’ve done a new edition of my new and current makeup favourites, so it’s time to update you all on what I’ve been using and loving these last few months. You’ll see some products I picked up in the USA (don’t worry, they’re mostly available here in the UK too) and some products from a new makeup brand that launched at the end of last year, Freedom Makeup. It’s been a long time since I’ve done an edition of my newly discovered makeup faves, but there hasn’t been a lot to update you on as I’ve been mostly using my favourite products from the last editions on repeat. I have found a few good new products here and there, though, so it’s finally time for another round.
I’m obsessed with lasting lipsticks. Once upon a time I didn’t wear lipstick ever and I was terrified of the idea of accidental smudging from forgetful touches in the same way you can sometimes forget you’re wearing eye makeup and accidentally threaten the integrity of your perfectly filled in brows with a mindless swipe. Now that I’m used to wearing lip products such a worry doesn’t concern me so much, but I do have steeply curved upper lips and a tendency to be overly expressive with my lips which combined means inner corner transfer of colour is a true threat. Plus, I do actually eat. Y’all know that. And I can’t be dealing with a lipstick that’s gonna wear half off every time I take a gulp of water or eat half a cookie. So I’m all about long-lasting lipsticks, especially if they’re affordable.
I’ve tried a hell of a lot of them, and more often than not I’ve come away feeling disappointed by the unmet claims from the advertisements and feeling gypped to have unloaded another unnecessary tenner from my wallet. But all my trying and testing does mean that there are some products I’ve found which I love, and those are products I return to over and over again. After months of meaning to get around to a lipstick master post letting you know my favourites, finally it’s here. Below are my magic 7 lip products that I love. Why 7? If you have to ask that you have obviously never read Harry Potter. (Also, it just so happens I have literally listed every product I switch back and forth between constantly and that happens to be 7 products, but you know, the ‘7 is the most magically powerful number’ thing as well. That too.)
Accio Long Lasting Lipicus!
I missed being part of the craze of the Benefit ‘They’re Real Push Up Liner’ being released because there is no way I will spend almost £20 on an eye liner. Good thing too, as feedback seemed to be 50/50 as to whether people loved this product or found it a huge let down. My friend Chee, who is addicted to makeup like I am and incredibly generous, sent me one as part of my Christmas present package, so I’ve finally been able to see what the fuss is about.
For those who don’t know, this product is a gel liner that is released through a twist function into an angled plastic applicator pen. It’s not a brush, you use the angled pen as if it was your brush.
Application: Twisting the bottom of the pen releases the gel from the top of the applicator Continue reading
I brought you Edition 1 of my all time and then-current favourite makeup products a couple of months ago, but as a makeup addict it doesn’t take long for me to find and develop new favourites. Which means it’s time for another edition of my makeup favourites! Here are the products I’ve found in the last few months that have won me over. Continue reading
For those who don’t know me very well they might not know that I have a slight makeup addiction. I own far too much makeup for a normal woman who doesn’t use it in any professional capacity, having multiple storage drawers and boxes housing endless lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, mascaras, blushers…it goes on and on. Part of why I have so much makeup isn’t simply that I love it, but also that I have a habit of trying out new products hoping their stellar claims for flawless skin or sky high lashes really will ring true and I will have discovered another Holy Grail beauty product. Often, I’m sure you’ll agree with me, the hype on a new product can fall flat, leading either to total disappointment or simply to a product you like just fine but doesn’t beat out your other favourites.
So for this reason I thought I’d do a post showing you my favourite all time products that I always repurchase as well as some new discoveries I’ve really liked. Hopefully it will clue you in on some good quality products you didn’t know about, or maybe answer questions about products you’ve have heard of but haven’t tried. Continue reading
There’s nothing like a body scrub to keep your skin smooth and soft. There also the added bonus in exfoliating that it helps to keep your carefully shaved/plucked/waxed body parts from developing annoying little ingrown hairs. That said, if you’re a fan of liberally applying your scrub to buff away then getting through a jar can be quick work–and can start adding up
My personal favourite kinds of body scrub are sugar scrubs, so imagine my delight when I realised I could make a great big pot of it for pence, compared to the £5 and up a jar it costs in store.
It’s incredibly easy and takes only a couple of minutes, and you can make your scrub as basic of luxurious as you want
Starting out you will of course need a bag of sugar; I use caster. For the oil you can either use baby oil or olive oil. Finally, for a basic pot, you will actually need a pot. You can either buy a regular twist top jam jar or a fancier lever-seal top jar, both of which will be available online or at your local homeward store, if not your local super market. If you want to get really thrifty, you can reuse any large pots you might have emptied from your beauty store in the past, whether a large moisturiser pot, intensive condition pot, or maybe the container from the last scrub you emptied. As long as it’s big enough to hold enough scrub for several applications and seals securely, you’re good to go. Continue reading
