Regular readers of this blog know Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks are my Holy Grail lip product. If you’re a stranger to these parts and found your way here looking for an overall review of the Matte Inks then you can read my original review here, as well as my many subsequent posts containing swatches and shade comparisons from different shade releases. Today I’m swatching the Birthday Edition shades. Let’s get to it!
Update 28th Dec 2020: These shades have recently been included in Maybelline’s Spiced Edition release this December, adding 2 additional Crayon shades into that collection and 5 accompanying Matte Ink liquid lip shades (the latter of which you can find the swatches of here.)
Maybelline’s habit this past year of not widely publicizing new shade releases of their Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks and Crayons seems to have continued recently with the sudden appearance of 3 new Crayon shades that I couldn’t find written up or swatched anywhere online. So if you, too, have noticed 95 Talk The Talk, 100 Reach High, and 115 Know No Limits have appeared online or in store at your favourite beauty supplier, let me help you out with some swatches and comparisons to past shades.
I discovered the other day, completely by accident, that there has been more than one release of new shades of L’Oreal’s Signature Rouge matte liquid lipstick that I wasn’t aware of. I do most of my online beauty shopping on Superdrug, but they didn’t have any of the new shades I had stumbled upon elsewhere, only the new Brilliant range of Signature Rouge lipsticks which have a glossy finish rather than a matte. Down the rabbit hole I went trying to figure out, almost obsessively, what I had missed, how many reds I was now sorely lacking, and how I could find them. Lucky for you, I’m going to fill you in on everything I found.
According to L’Oreal Paris’s social media accounts their newest release for the Signature Rouge Matte liquid lipstick range is the Empowered Collection, comprised entirely of reds and pinks. I’ve managed to get 4 of the shades from this collection; 136 Armored, 137 Red, 139 Honored, and 139 Adored. I’m not just being weird about those names, they’ve really leaned into highlighting the RED of it all. I haven’t been able to confirm the shade range for certain, but I believe there might be 9 shades in total in this collection.
I’ve done several of these current favourite beauty product posts in the past, but considering it’s been 2 years since I’ve updated this series of posts I think it’s time to look at my favourite products for every part of my makeup application. Let’s slap a full face on and get specific!
My go-to vintage makeup look
Beauty Pie is an interesting and unique new beauty brand because it’s a makeup and skincare company with a membership-service twist. If this is your first time hearing about them it can seem a bit confusing at first, so let me explain. Continue reading
