Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Crayon *Spiced Edition* [Swatches + Comparisons]

Update 28th Dec 2020: These shades have recently been included in Maybelline’s Spiced Edition release this December, adding 2 additional Crayon shades into that collection and 5 accompanying Matte Ink liquid lip shades (the latter of which you can find the swatches of here.)

Maybelline’s habit this past year of not widely publicizing new shade releases of their Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks and Crayons seems to have continued recently with the sudden appearance of 3 new Crayon shades that I couldn’t find written up or swatched anywhere online. So if you, too, have noticed 95 Talk The Talk, 100 Reach High, and 115 Know No Limits have appeared online or in store at your favourite beauty supplier, let me help you out with some swatches and comparisons to past shades.

It’s been about a month since I first noticed these new colours on Superdrug online, so I’m pretty convinced that if there are any shades attributed to the missing 105 and 110 slots between Reach High and Know No Limits then the UK might not be getting them, it seems.

95 Talk The Talk

A light tan brown, this shade isn’t a great colour on me but will be a lovely nude lip shade for folks with olive or light brown skin.

100 Reach High

A warm toned mid-brown, again it will work well on light-to-medium darker skintones.

115 Know No Limits

A lovely red with a rust/brick undertone. Previous red shades differ in that 50 Own Your Empire is a richer blue toned red, and 45 Hustle in Heels is more of a classic orange based red.

When the Superstay Crayons were first released the USA seemed to get an extra 2 shades that the UK didn’t, which I believe were nude tones if I remember rightly. I don’t usually wear nude lipsticks, so I’m afraid I didn’t have any other brown toned Superstay Crayons to use for the below swatches comparing these new shades to past releases. I’ve included some of the less punchy pink shades anyway just to illustrate how brown toned Talk The Talk and Reach High really are, and of course have shown past reds too to compare to Know No Limits.

I’m sorry there aren’t any close up lip swatches in this review, my DSLR had a memory card malfunction and I lost them all.

I’ve swatched the original release of these Maybelline Crayons and their Pink Edition release previously here on the blog, so take a look at those if you fancy it.

    • Yes! I’ve been obsessively checking for them here but there’s been no announcements of when they’ll be available in the U.K. (people often ask on their social media and I’ve kept an eye on their reply) and no sight of them yet. I suspect they’ll either arrive suddenly soon or we might not get them for quite a while, because they’ve been happy to say when countries like India, France and Germany are getting them.
