It’s that wonderful time of year–no, not Christmas, new Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink shades! The Spiced Edition boasts 5 new Matte Ink liquid lip shades and 6 new Crayon shades–well, sort of new. Let me explain.
The past year has been a strange one in terms of Maybelline Superstay lipstick releases here in the UK, because we’ve received some new shades with zero promo for their release (the Matte Ink Crayon Pink Edition in February, for example,) while we simply haven’t received certain other releases at all, namely the Coffee Edition from late this Autumn. In September I found 4 new shades of the Superstay Matte Ink Crayon here in the UK (released with no collection name,) promptly snapping them up and swatching them for you. Colour me surprised, then, to find in December that Maybelline’s new Superstay Spiced Edition as presented on their social channels included those same 4 already-released Crayon shades, alongside 2 others and 5 new Matte Ink liquid lip shades.
I anticipated having to potentially wait months for the new shades, just like the Coffee Edition, but weirdly 3 of the 5 new liquid lip shades have hit Superdrug online (seemingly not Boots or other sites I’ve checked??) here in the UK. Obviously, I ordered them immediately and am checking daily to see if the other two shades pop up, but so far it’s just 320 Individualist, 325 Shot Caller and 330 Innovator that are available, with 335 Hustler and 340 Exhilarator missing. I’ll update this post with those last 2 shades if and when I’m able to get my hands on them, but in the meantime below are my swatches of the first 3.
You can read my original review of the new Matte Crayon shades which have become part of this Spiced Edition release to find my swatches for 95 Talk the Talk, 100 Reach High, and 115 Know No Limits.

Individualist is a hot orange-red, more orange than Dancer but much less so than Heroine, which is a bright orange coral.

Shot Caller is a rich pink red, more pink toned than Pioneer which has a richer, berry undertone.
330 Innovator

Innovator is a terracotta red. Comparatively Ground-Breaker is a darker, richer rust shade that reads closer to red on my skin, but Innovator is a truer terracotta with more orange present.
The comparison swatches below show the new shades compared to all the existing similar shades I own in 3 different lights to give you a sense of their depth and undertones.
So what d’you think? Have you picked up any of the new Spiced Edition shades?

Hmm I may have to get Individualist or Innovator to fill the missing gap of ORANGE in my set. I have the orange/coral one but it is too far on the pink side. I am still waiting for a bold orange but Innovator or Individualist may be a good start for a burnt orange shade!

It will never stop being weird to me how much skintone affects the way lip colour reads on a person because Heroine is SO orange on me. Like neon orange, basically

I do love being able to order my favourite lipsticks from home and just sit back and wait for them to arrive. The perfect present from me to me!

I think Dancer is the one I’m looking for. A red lighter than Pioneer deeper than Heroine and not with a pink or orange undertone

Yes, Dancer sounds like the right choice for what you’re describing 💕

Did you ever get Exhilarator? I’m wondering how it compares to Dancer, Pioneer, etc.

No, unfortunately I don’t think it was ever released in the U.K.
