Wasp Waist [Orchard Corset Mesh Waspie CS-201]

I’m not a corset wearer in general and certainly not a waist-trainer or tight-lacer. For this reason I can’t claim this review will have all the particular informative depth of a person who has extensive experience in that area, but I can review this corset as a hourglass woman who carries her weight on her stomach, has recently gained enough weight that she feels shapewear in wiggles is a necessity for a better, smoother silhouette, and has tried a lot of different kinds of shapewear of varying degrees of comfort and control strength in an attempt to find the best option.

I probably own 15 corsets, some of them purely fashion corsets with shoddy, cheap plastic boning for costume and play, and some middle-ground quality corsets with full steel bones and decent cinching power. I’d been curious about this Orchard Corset CS-201 Mesh Waspie for quite a long time because I wanted to get a waspie corset that I hoped would give me a more pronounced waist in wiggle dresses without having to go the route of wearing a full corset or a longline underbust that would dig into me when I sat in it. Plus the fact that this corset is mesh made me sure it would be more comfortable in warmer weathers and stuffy rooms than layering a ‘proper’ corset underneath my clothing. Continue reading

A Luxurious Win With Von50′

Von50′ is a luxury French clothing brand bringing you haute couture quality goods at prices far more affordable than their designer counterparts. Von50 founder Emilie Bellan-Payrault says ‘VON 50′ has been created to reach three goals: let women reclaim their femininity and curves, reinvent quality so luxury would become affordable, offer all of us a maximum of self-confidence.’ Those are all things I can get on board with, so when I noticed the Von50 Instagram account several months back I keenly followed.

It was in October that Von50′ announced it’s first Instagram competition–submit selfies of yourself looking your most chic under their competition tag and be in with a chance to win 100EUR voucher to their website. This, ladies, was a contest right up my Parisian chic street. I didn’t expect to win, but it was fun to showcase some of my more glamorous retro looks, so I entered aplenty throughout October, enjoying the kindness with which Von50′ founder Emilie herself treated me and my little selfies. Retro Lingerie on the High Street

When it comes to retro style lingerie the easiest go-to options are the well-established vintage-inspired lingerie brands such as What Katie Did, Kiss Me Deadly, Rago, and of course Dita Von Teese’s line for Von Follies. These lines all offer gorgeous well-made pieces, but at a cost. For those pinups on a budget, or those just branching into this style of dressing, it’s nice to have lower cost items available to them, and at potentially more readily available sources. This is why it’s especially nice that the British high street has been providing some retro inspiration undies of their own this summer, and I’ve made it my mission to track down some of the current available options I’ve spotted of late to share with you. So check you’ve got your bra size accurately fitted and get your debit card out, because some of these beauties are just crying out to be snapped up.

New Look – The item that first caught my eye from New Look recently was the Black Lace Caged Bralet (£9.99), which is beautiful, so retro, but sadly out of stock, though the good news is they must be planning to restock it because there’s a ‘Notify me’ button you can use to ask for an email alert when your size is in stock. It’s not just this particular retro inspired bra that New Look currently has for sale. Continue reading
