Do I start singing Lonely Island’s ‘Lazy Sunday’ to myself every time I see this Frilly Sundae dress by Hell Bunny? Yes, of course I do. Am I embarrassed to admit that? No, of course I’m not. Is it a cute-ass dress? Yes, of course it is, let’s stop messing around with this nonsense and take a look at it!
Dress: Black Frilly Sundae dress gifted by Hell Bunny
Shoes: Old Lindy Bop – Similar
Bag: Previously gifted Lola Von Rose boxbag
Sheer robe: Old ASOS
The Frilly Sundae dress comes in both black, as pictured here, and lilac, which for some of my friends is just two sides of the same coin. I’m not really a pastels kind of lady, but my, my, this black version is mighty cute. If you recognise the dress cut it’s likely because you’re remembering Hell Bunny’s stunning Magnolia dress from this past winter season. I fell hard in love with that darling yet moody number, so it’s no surprise I immediately fell for this solid black incarnation. Well, I say solid black–it’s still pinstriped with that same silver lurex thread that gave the Magnolia dress that little extra something something.
The name is fairly apt; the frills trimming the V-neckline and the short sleeves are delicate and sweet, just like a sundae. The sheer fabric top layer is spotted, adding an extra textural dimension to the silver thread and frilled trimmings. The whole dress is lined, of course, so it’s entirely modest, even including the neckline, but the sheer fabric gives off a hint of sexiness even while the dress on the whole pleads gentleness. The silver lurex is echoed in the line of silver glitter buttons decorating the bust, a fun little detail for sparkle lovers. It is, in all, a lovely dress that can be styled as alternatively or as daintily as you like. For me, adding vintage booties, black tights and a faux leather jacket in autumn will feel casual and easy in a way that’s reassuring, but there’s still plenty of room for glamour.
I always wear a 2XL/18 in Hell Bunny so that’s what I asked for in this dress, another great fit. The bust flat measures 45 inches with room for up to 48 inches. The waist flat measures 38 inches with an inch of give, and the pleated skirt is 27 inches long. There is room for a slim volume petticoat under the skirt should you wish to wear one. As mentioned, this dress comes in 2 colours, but the same fabric is also used for a Frilly Sundae blouse, which is a short sleeved pussybow blouse available in both black and lilac.
The Frilly Sundae dress comes in black and lilac in Hell Bunny’s extended size range of XS-6XL.
