Allegra, My Dream [Miss Candyfloss]

You know how sometimes people see something and they say ‘oh that is so you!’ and it’s really kind of cute because it means they know you and what you like so well that they can recognise when something is a perfect match for you? That is one of my favourite things in the world, and recently lots of people on my social media platforms were saying it when they saw the Allegra dress debuted in the Miss Candyfloss SS18 lookbook. Why? Because it is a delicious mustardy slice of summer freshness, sweetness, chicness, and the fact that other people associated those things with me and what I love made me smile.

The dress is so perfect for me, in fact, that while I know realistically Miss Candyfloss didn’t design it for me...ehh, part of my excited heart chooses to believe that they did, because come on! Look at it! It’s summer Amy May personified!

A Little Bit of Truffle [Hotter Shoes]

Hotter Shoes are known for their high quality, comfortable shoes, made in a wide range of styles, many of which compliment a vintage inspired wardrobe with ease. They produce most of their products in their factory in Lancashire, England, where they’ve been settled since they were established there in 1959. And for the first time, my tootsies are getting a look at what premium, comfort-driven shoes really feel like!

A Rose Among Thorns [Dolly & Dotty]

Do you ever find that, out of nowhere, you unexpectedly become a bit obsessed with a certain colour, print or motif that never much moved you before? That’s me right now with red rose prints. I don’t know how or why my love for them appeared so suddenly, but it’s here nonetheless and so is my need to have a dozen rose themed items in my wardrobe, you know, because I can’t do anything by halves. Lucky me, then, that this Annie dress from Dolly & Dotty arrived at this most serendipitous time.

Aurora in the Woods [Dolly & Dotty]

As much as I love colourful prints and patterns, I’m always a fan of any classic swing dress in black and white that can function as a style comfort blanket in your closet. Got a last minute invite to an event with a vague dress code? Trusty classic backup dress to the rescue! Not sure if anyone else will be wearing colour where you’re going? Trusty classic backup dress to the rescue! Feel like everyone else is going to be fairly casual, so you don’t want to be too extra but you’re also not willing to compromise your style entirely? Trusty classic backup dress to the rescue!

And one such dress is the lovely black and white Aurora by Dolly & Dotty. It’s swing, it’s striped, and it has pockets. What more could you ask for?

Matilda, Waiting for Spring [Lindy Bop]

As much as I love the plaids, tartans and rich tones of dressing in winter, normally by the time February rolls around I’m chomping at the bit for springtime, my favourite season. This year is no different. I’m starting to get the itch to dig out my summer wardrobe, with its tropical and fruity prints, its bold colours and bright tones. The weather just isn’t quite there yet though, but on the occasional sunny day I think we’re getting to the point where a light pastel dress isn’t going to look out of place despite the date on the calendar. Enter Matilda, my new daffodil darling.

December Outfits Round Up

It’s 2018! And man, is that a bittersweet thing. Yes, 2017 was was a hellhole dumpster fire of a year beyond even the stink pile of 2016, so seeing it gone and moving into a new year is great. But also, where the fuck did this year go?! I swear Trump’s inauguration feels like it was maybe 4 months ago, tops. 2017 was brutal but it did fly by, and scarily it’s time for another year.

December, at least, was lovely. I got to spend a lot of time with family and friends, and I made the most of relaxing and binge-watching old Grey’s Anatomy episodes during my Christmas break rather than forcing myself to be productive. There’s always things that need doing, but there’s not many times in a year I can actually lay on the sofa in my PJs guilt free for several hours together and doing so has been lovely. Also, I napped a lot with my cat so that was great. I won’t show you the sweats I wore while doing that, though. Maybe let’s just stick to the festive ensembles and the party season frocks, shall we?

Floral for Winter [Collectif]

I love olive green, a colour I believe is massively under utilised and under appreciated. Lucky for me, Collectif have taken up the charge for championing it this season with several olive toned pieces in their AW17 line, one of my favourites of which is this Jessie floral cardigan.

Head to Toe Festivities [Vivien of Holloway]

Vivien of Holloway are well known for their many signature style dresses, from their Halter Neck Circle Dress to their Bolero and Sarong sets, but come winter their beloved tartan circle skirts take centre stage. There’s always a flurry of excitement and desperate flashing of bank cards when the winter skirts are restocked each year, and each year they sell out in a frenzy in their most popular tartans. Now, much-anticipated releases of new colours or prints of their Slash Neck Tops often sell out with the same kind of speed and fervor, so I’m sure I’ll be preaching to the choir for many of you today when we look at this Vivien of Holloway outfit that’s got me feeling all kinds of festive.

Warmth and Glamour [Collectif]

Ah, Collectif; does anybody do coats better than you? Certainly I don’t think any other vintage inspired brand is as well known for their coats, especially when you consider the fame and fervor surrounding the yearly release of their Pearl coat. For me, it was the Riley coat that made my heart go a pitter-patter when I first glimpsed its preview, a coat so classic and beautiful I have already said a million times to anyone who will listen that I want to just wear it as a dress. I’m more than partial to a winter cape as well, so when the brainwave hit to pair the Paige velvet and faux fur cape with the Riley for hood coverage and extra warmth on very cold or drizzly days, I wasn’t just pleased with myself for the practicality of the idea, but downright obnoxiously proud of the glamorous combination it created. Behold, a pairing fit for most any winter wonderland!
