I’m not a huge jewellery person. I don’t have pierced ears and I never really got into rings. My hair always seems to tangle around the clasp of necklaces, which also twist as I wear them, so more often than not I just forget to put them on, even though I own many. Mostly, I love a brooch and a bangle. Or, well, three bangles, more specifically, because as a lover of colour blocking my accessories I typically like to stack together matching bangles of varying widths. That makes Splendette my perfect bangle maker because every release comes in 3 widths, as well as in 3 wrist sizes, so no folks get left out. Let’s take a look at their lush new Spring Florals line.

Feeling 40s [Weekend Doll]
I love getting to try new-to-me brands here on the blog, especially when they’re small businesses, so I’m thrilled today to introduce Weekend Doll to my little corner of the internet. Weekend Doll have been on the scene for almost a decade as a stockist of independent vintage-inspired brands, but this year they launched their own line! I adore when small businesses take the leap into producing their own pieces but even more so when they are dedicated to producing it at home here in the U.K., as Weekend Doll is. That decision is a result of not only wanting to support the British manufacturing industry but also as a conscious effort to reduce their environmental impact by limiting the travel their wares must undertake in order to be ready for sale. With all of those things in mind, I was certainly very excited to try my first Weekend Doll outfit.
Yes to Tess [Dolly & Dotty]
One of the things I most love in clothing is when designers play with textures. Layering different materials to achieve a multi-textured effect is pretty easy to do with your styling choices, but when a dress already offers something texturally interesting you’re already halfway there. And this Tess dress definitely offers!
Little Gingham Annie [Dolly & Dotty]
The Annie dress is one of Dolly & Dotty’s staple dress cuts, released each season in a variety of new prints and patterns. Whether you love florals, embroidered designs, quirky patterns, winter checks, or even lace, there’s an Annie (or several!) for you. I own a handful already, and they’re always easy to throw on to quickly create a great outfit around. My newest Annie is this little gingham number, so you know I’m in my very best summertime picnic feels! Let’s go walk barefoot through the meadow together, shall we?
Going Dotty [Dolly & Dotty]
Polka dots is one of the patterns that’s prevalent in the vintage inspired clothing realm. It wasn’t something I ever thought much about until I saw someone comment somewhere on social media that they hated polka dots and how common they were in repro clothing. Personally I quite like a small or medium sized dot, especially when done in black and white, but I share an aversion to very large polka dots which feel more costumey to me, so I can understand their complaint. There are plenty of ways to wear spots without looking too twee nor too rote, though, and today I want to focus on one of my favourite ways–playing with texture and layers.
Aurora’s Roses [Wax Poetic Clothing]
No outfit is easier to create than one begun with a wrap dress. And a soft, stretchy floral wrap dress with flutter sleeves? Why, that’s just a summer time prayer answered all in one.
Freya and Rachel [Belbeina Lee]
I am obsessed with Belbeina Lee. Everything she makes is stunning, whether it’s an original design or a piece inspired by a true vintage item; they both generate the same effect, which is me falling in love and adding yet another fabulous hat to my wishlist. Since it’s been a crappy year I recently decided to treat myself to two brand spanking new Belbeina Lee pieces, and my goodness, they more than live up to my expectations, just as they always do.
Bang, Betty, Bang! [Cerys’ Closet]
One item of clothing I absolutely love but don’t wear that often is a peplum top. Why the disparity between my feelings and my actions? Because as a plus sized woman who carries a lot of weight on her tummy I generally feel self-conscious in clothing that displays it, and the average peplum top you find online or on the high street isn’t long enough to get the full tummy coverage that will leave me feeling my most confident. This peplum though? Oh, this bad Betty was deliberately made at the right length to soothe those of us with a little bit of belly bashfulness, and not only does it come in 6 colours, but it comes with a matching wiggle skirt too!
Tights for Every Body [Snag Tights]
I’m a plus-sized woman with sizable thighs and I live in England, so what does that mean? If it’s cold, which it often is, I need to wear tights if I want to wear a dress, and if it’s hot I need to wear something to stop my delightfully squishy thighs from rubbing together until they’re sore. That used to mean wearing sheer skintone tights even in a heatwave, despite the fact that most tights fit me poorly and some made my skin itch uncomfortably. But then I found Snag Tights, and through them my salvation; comfortable, chub rub shorts for summer, and tights that actually fit properly, for the first time in my life, for every day, look and occasion.
An Ode to Vera [Cerys’ Closet]
There are many ways it’s hard to be a small business. Having limited resources, the financial pressure of making it work so you can meet your bills or pay for your kid’s after school clubs, the gamble of stocking a new product you believe in that customers might not ‘get’ at first, trying to build up your return customer base as well as your brand recognition so you can reach new potential customers. And if you’re a small business owner who has bigger dreams, who wants not just to stock and sell but to design, to manufacture, to create, it’s harder still to build up and spend out the cost of fulfilling that dream. To create something that is yours and yours alone to offer your customers, something you made with love and passion and great hope. I’m not sure that kind of vision and bravery is something I would ever find in myself, but the beautiful thing about having my own tiny corner of the internet is that I can share the lovely things made by braver, more imaginative people than I, and today I do just that. Today we’re looking at the first dress made for Cerys’ Closet’s own brand, and it’s a made in UK beauty!
