February Outfits Round Up

You guys, I can very nearly smell spring in the air! That may not seem like a big deal, but given how much fog we’ve had over the last few months (the Dementors are definitely breeding,) it’s amazing how exciting it is to get a sunny day. Not even a warm day. Just a sunny day. I very much enjoyed darker colours and heavier fabrics this winter, but I’m finally excited for my spring/summer wardrobe to come out to play. Bring on the florals, bright colours and tropical prints!

January Outfits Round Up

I’m not gonna lie, 2017 started off rough. There were some family health scares and accidents that, coupled with an insane workload throughout the whole month in my department at work, really left me feeling low on energy and not much in the mood to dress up some days. I think sometimes since vintage dressing is such a time-consuming and energy-intensive style that ladies can look at pinups who wear this style every day, or at least regularly, and think ‘Wow, they’re flawless and they seem to find it so easy! I don’t think I can do that,’ then get put off the idea of dabbling with the style.

So in the interest of full disclosure, I want any of you lovelies who sometimes feel that way, or who feel discouraged in general by the seemingly perfect pinup lives so easily presented on social media, to know that that perfection or ease or even excitement isn’t necessarily the full truth. While typically getting dolled up gives me energy and positive feelings, this month I’ve just been too low on energy to enjoy it in the same way. Normally wearing jeans and a hoody in public makes me feel weirdly both exposed and invisible, but this month it’s often what I’ve felt I’ve needed simply because I just couldn’t be bothered to care about my appearance so much. And there’s nothing wrong with that, whether that’s a temporary or a permanent status for anyone, but I wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that you can wear what you want, when you want, and it doesn’t mean anything other than ‘this is the outfit that I wanted to wear today.’ You do you, boo.

Saying that, I got my 50% off Collectif order through this month, holla, and that injected a little more excitement back into my wardrobeI have a week off work in February and I’m hoping to fill it with some fun activities and much procrastinated productivity, so here’s hoping next month leaves me feeling revitalised and ready to get my pinup on with my usual enthusiasm.

Happy New Year to you, if I haven’t said it already; I hope January has treated you kindly and that you feel hopeful and happy wherever you are. And now, on to the clothes!

December Outfits Round Up

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it’s pretty easy to use the month of December as an excuse to get a little bit more fancy, glittery and glitzy than usual, and that’s what I did. This winter I’ve been drawn to darker colours than I perhaps have been in the past, so it was nice this month to indulge in some metallics and tulle here and there to mix things up. Plus, I’ve been changing up my hair more regularly with the help of some clip in Bettie bangs and some practice at beehives, so that’s been fun too. Now let’s hope I still fit in some of my dresses in the New Year after all the festive scoffing!

November Outfits Round Up

CHRISTMAS IS COMING, CHRISTMAS IS COMING! I know, November is too early for a lot of people to be getting into the spirit, but the urge to embrace the festive feels in my outfits started early this month. I tried my best to minimise the pairing of red and green together as obnoxiously as I wanted to, so instead you can expect lots of dark, rich colours as November got definitively chilly and sometimes wet.

October Outfits Round Up

Finally, autumn has truly come. Some of the sleeved dresses I bought at the end of last winter or this spring have only this month been possible to wear, now that the temperature has begun to drop and the rain (sigh) is back. I’m not crazy about how difficult this wet, cold weather makes shooting for the blog outdoors, but I am definitely happy with the chance to play with darker colours and heavier fabrics.

September Outfits Round Up

September messed with us all here in England. It kept being (quote unquote) hot again. Which is fine–given we generally have crap summers you’d think we would be excited to have some surprisingly warm stretches in the first month of autumn. Sort of, but not really. Because I’m so ready to dig out my autumn wardrobe, as well as wear the new additions to it I’ve been buying the last few weeks, and so far there has rarely been the chance. My tartan, tweeds and plaids have gone unloved, my checks and flannels have been sadly unattended to. My summer clothes are pretty, but damnit I just want to wear the fall stuff.

So let’s be more sensible, October, shall we? You don’t have to rain or even get dreary (in fact, it would be kind of convenient for my blogging needs if you didn’t,) but a bit of a chill would be seasonally wonderful, if you would do me the honour. Okay? Okay. Just think about it, is all I’m asking. In the mean time, here’s the frustrated and temperature-confused collection of outfits I put together in September.

August Outfits Round Up

Oh August. You were a mixed bag. It was a surprisingly hot month, as far as us Brits are concerned anyway, so there was lots of dressing for comfort and humidity. There was also a bad run of luck on my end specifically, with a broken camera lens and then a severed phone line removing my access to wifi that made taking and uploading outfit photos and blog posts a big challenge.  Basically, I am very ready for September and cooler weather. (Bearing in mind, I reserve the right to then complain about how difficult that bad weather might make taking blog photos once it sets in. I know. I’m a complicated woman sometimes. Just go with it.)

Now, let’s say farewell to summer with August’s outfits.

July Outfits Round Up

After a kind of funky June that left me a bit tired and fed up, I’m pleased to report that July was a much better month. We actually had some summer (a big deal for us Brits, rain-sodden and perpetually cloud-shrouded as we are,) there was a lot of great quality time with family and friends, and there were outfits, as always, lots of outfits.

As usual, you can find links in the description to any item that is still available to buy. Anything not linked is from a past season and cannot be found for purchase any longer and/or is not available to buy online from the website from which I purchased it. To help give you some clarification that might make it easier for you to find certain items, please note that an item listed as ‘by’ a brand was designed by that brand, but items listed ‘from’ means that website merely sells the item and is not the designer, meaning you may be able to find it elsewhere with some searching.

June Outfits Round Up

June, ah. You started so well. Then came the rain. So much rain. There was a period in the middle there where it genuinely felt like the start of autumn, very confusing when new summer dresses were turning up in pretty parcels on my doorstep. Amidst all the water, it was a long and sometimes-difficult month, with social meet-ups sometimes put behind the need to stay home and recoup with some blanket time and Netflix. Saying that, there’s still been some outfits from this month that I really loved. Here’s hoping July will be brighter and better all round!

May Outfits Round Up

May means one thing to me: it’s mah birthday month! Half of this month’s outfits have been worn to a myriad of celebrations held in the name of my birth, because I’m one of those obnoxious people who love birthdays and gleefully drag mine out for at least two weeks, if not longer. My 30th will no doubt hold the record in this sense, as scheduling difficulties mean my final celebration doesn’t take place until mid-June, but I promise that this outfit wrap up post will be the last mention of the B word now until someone else’s comes along to claim that. At least it offers you a variety of outfits, from evening glam to picnic cute.
