When it comes to prints, there’s not many that work year round. Anything nautical suits only good weather, which here in England certainly means it’s meant for only spring and summer, at best. Tropical florals work the same way, feeling odd in the cold, darker parts of the year. Tartan and checks suit cold months best, while pretty pastel florals will always look best in spring. But a rose print? Oh a rose print can work all year round. And this Antonia print by Hell Bunny is ready to represent.

January Outfits Round Up

People often complain about how long and difficult January is, but I mostly just enjoyed slowly plodding my way through the sweets from my Christmas stocking and making the most of the downtime before the SS19 releases begin. It’s been really nice to have the time to balance relaxation and productivity that isn’t blog-centric, so I’ve enjoyed January on the whole.

Update: The UK government has recently updated their rules concerning the transparency of gifted items/paid for promotions for social media influencers. A Hepburn For Winter [Lady V London]

We’re definitely in that dreary, awkward time of year–Christmas is over but winter has barely begun in earnest, so it feels a lot like there’s not much to look forward to except cold. Eventually, thank goodness, Pancake Day will give us something to be excited about, but in the meantime it’s not uncommon that at this point in January I can often feel uninspired by the notion of creating an outfit suitable for winter.

With this new Lady V dress, however, deciding on a styling was easy. I looked over the fairytale-reminiscent, wintery print, glanced out my window at the chilly, rainy sky outside, and decided in a second–faux leather, and a lot of it. Red roses might remind you of Belle or Aurora, but this queen is happy to take on the cold without a beast or a prince, just a pair of warm boots and some sass.

A winter coat that combines my love of faux fur trims, elegant but detachable capes, and genuine winter practicality of providing warmth, having pockets and being able to fit over my full-skirted swing dresses? Like Fine Wine [Miss Candyfloss]

If I had to choose a favourite vintage brand, it would have to be Miss Candyfloss. Their Autumn/Winter lines especially floor me every year, always producing elegant, stylish, and seasonally-appropriate pieces no matter the theme of their inspiration for the season. This winter the inspiration for their new line was Dior’s iconic New Look, and their resulting releases have been just as extraordinary. So much so that each time I’ve managed to snag a piece it has almost always sold out within hours, let alone by the time the parcel containing my order arrives in my hands. As such, deciding whether to blog sold-out styles has been a conundrum I’ve repeatedly faced, not wanting to torture the ladies who missed out while also feeling these pieces are so beautiful they deserve a spotlight here on the blog.

This week, knowing once again that this latest dress of mine might have sold out by the time this review goes live, I decided it was too lovely a piece not to get its own photoshoot. Folks, let’s all marvel at the Ambre-Wine together.

Excel in Garcelle [Lindy Bop]

Obviously there’s a lot of styles within the mid-century fashion realm that ooze elegance. Once you remove poodle skirts from the line up, it’s basically all of them. One of my favourites, yet also probably the style type I own the least of, is the coat dress. They somehow aren’t reproduced as often as I would expect them to be, given they are practically a superlative in sophistication, but when they are, they win me over every time.

A Festive Duo [Collectif + Hotter]

You must know by now that I have a thing for velvet. With Christmas coming up fast, it’s the perfect time of year to get a bit plush and lush with some velvet on ya body, whether that’s as luxurious trim on a piece made from another fabric, a little glimpse of a velvet top layered under other items, or a full-on, can’t-be-denied, say-hello-to-my-velvet-dress!

The latter, especially, is my favourite kind to flaunt for some festive fun, and thanks to Collectif I’ve added a truly stunning velvet number to my collection with this Clara dress. But as if the festive perfection ends there; paired with these rose gold beauties from Hotter Shoes–could I be any more ready for Christmas? I think not. Praise be and pass me the candy canes!

A Little Nutcracker [Hell Bunny]

One of the fun things about the vintage inspired world is that the seemingly opposing style types of timeless classic pieces and novelty designs exist side by side. It’s one of the things that confused me a bit when I first became a pinup, and 5 years on I still rarely feel drawn to the novelty elements of vintage fashion. One time of year when I do like to indulge in a little bit of fun in that way is at Christmas. Each year it’s fun to find a new festive dress I can wear in the run up to the big day that will bring joy to the other Christmas lovers I meet.

Whether it’s in the supermarket, running errands, grabbing a drink, or when meeting one of my best friends for dinner, if I can wear an obnoxiously Christmas themed outfit that will make the people I encounter happy, that makes me happy. It’s like the pinup version of a Christmas sweater, I suppose. And this year, just as last year with their Holly print dress, it’s Hell Bunny who’ve brought the Chrimbo joy to vintage dressing with this Nutcracker number!
