March, you dizzying blur of a month! Man, I can’t believe how fast it went. It had some real highs and some lows, from the disappointment of some truly awesome plans being cancelled and getting a sickness bug over the much anticipated long Easter weekend, to the joys of being reunited with my Deadly is the Female friends for a catch up and a spot of modelling. And now, April, in which I intend to catch up on all the chocolate I missed out on over Easter and looking forward to my birthday in early May.
Here we are again, the end of another month. Man, I just love how short February is! Already pay day and I feel like pancake day was just yesterday. It doesn’t hurt that in addition to being a short month that features pancakes heavily, I also had a week off work on annual leave, had a reunion with a friend I hadn’t seen in approximately a trillion ages, and got to enjoy Galentine’s as per tradition with my best friend. Oh, yeah, and there was also the small matter of finally getting to go see Hamilton on the West End. No Bigs, you know. AHHH!
That’s it, the first month of 2017 done! Everyone keeps saying how long it dragged on for but I feel like it rushed by. I had a bit of a motivational slump coming out of Christmas, but I’m excited for a productive month ahead in February and already a bit eager to leave behind the winter weather for spring dresses and bare legs…not that spring, or even summer, guarantees the latter in England. Did you have a good January?
It’s 2018! And man, is that a bittersweet thing. Yes, 2017 was was a hellhole dumpster fire of a year beyond even the stink pile of 2016, so seeing it gone and moving into a new year is great. But also, where the fuck did this year go?! I swear Trump’s inauguration feels like it was maybe 4 months ago, tops. 2017 was brutal but it did fly by, and scarily it’s time for another year.
December, at least, was lovely. I got to spend a lot of time with family and friends, and I made the most of relaxing and binge-watching old Grey’s Anatomy episodes during my Christmas break rather than forcing myself to be productive. There’s always things that need doing, but there’s not many times in a year I can actually lay on the sofa in my PJs guilt free for several hours together and doing so has been lovely. Also, I napped a lot with my cat so that was great. I won’t show you the sweats I wore while doing that, though. Maybe let’s just stick to the festive ensembles and the party season frocks, shall we?
YOU GUYS, CHRISTMAS IS COMING! I’m aware not everyone celebrates that holiday, nor even that everyone even likes it, but I start thinking about Christmas in about mid October, at the latest, and I only have 3 gifts left to buy, so I’m already feeling pretty tingly with the festive spirit. As such, it’s taken a real effort of restraint not to start incorporating that feeling into my outfits this month, but I managed to resist and instead focused on the fact that it still feels a lot like the height of autumn thanks to the autumn leaves that are still holding strong out there–isn’t the autumn colour normally done by now?? It feels so weird to still have plenty of trees left to change their leaves, let alone lose them.
Still, for now I’ll try to keep my humming of Christmas songs quiet enough that most people can’t hear them, while I mentally begin to plan all my December outfits for maximum festivity!
October was kind of a quiet month, I feel like my friends spent a lot of it being sick or busy so it both dragged and rushed by with the decrease of usual socialising. But the leaves are turning and it’s getting a bit crisp out without being too cold yet, so I’m loving the true arrival of Autumn. Plus, judge me if you must, but I’m already starting to feel festive! So bring it on, November, I’m ready to celebrate the birthdays of some of my favourites and then begin my Christmas gift shopping!
Sooo…turns out I wore a lot of black and burgundy this month. Did I mean to do it? No. Do I regret it? Also no. It definitely marks a change as I’ve never been one to wear much black, so I’m not really sure how or why this change has come about in recent months. All I can say is that when it’s moody and grey outside it definitely feels more natural now to reach for something dark and sexy, like black, over trying to find something both bright and seasonally appropriate. Saying that, I’m setting myself a style challenge to be a bit more diverse in my outfit choices during October.
August has been a weird month of, you guessed it, mixed weather so there’s been a lot of swinging back and forth between summer styles and more Autumnal pieces. Soon it will be autumn in earnest and I’m looking forward to the launch of AW17 from my favourite brands, particularly with London Edge this weekend. Come back to the site on Monday for the full run down of the event and lots of pictures of upcoming releases!
Ah July, you were a mixed bag. Half pleasant summer and half dreary autumn rain, I flip-flopped on dressing brightly or with autumn tones in mind. It felt like a quick month but looking back the first outfit of the month (the leopard dress) feels like an age ago. Let’s see how weird August gets with time and weather, shall we?
Y’all, I’m sure you know this already because when it happens we Brits can do nothing but complain about it, weak as we are, but it’s been hot here. Like, doesn’t happen in England very often kind of hot. (Aka, around 30°C.) I know that’s nothing compared to what some other countries have to deal with but it’s a rarity for us; some summers it doesn’t reach that heat at all, or perhaps for one day. We are much more used to damp summers, chilly springs, and frosty winters. When it gets hot here, with our humidity levels tending towards the downright rude, we kind of don’t know what to do except stand around moaning while we get all pink and clammy.
As such, it’s been a fairly simple style month. When it’s been hot the pincurls have been ditched in favour of buns, I’ve had little mental effort left to figure out how to tie together an outfit when my standard cropped cardigans haven’t been required, and honestly some days I haven’t felt like putting in any effort at all. Thankfully the heatwave is over and fingers crossed that will be it for this summer. Bring me sunny days with cool breezes.
