A Casual Leopard [Hell Bunny]

In my attitudinal warming towards leopard print in the last year or so I’ve noticed that most of the spotty little items I’ve acquired have felt largely sassy and not at that casual as far as clothing goes. The 50s styles I prefer, admittedly, are simply more dressy, and I don’t lean into the more relaxed rockabilly styles that do read as more laid-back to the styled eye.
Because of that, it was nice to come across this Hell Bunny Panthera dress, as it’s a gorgeous example of leopard print conducted in a truly casual way. That makes it a perfect piece for ladies who find sporting spots a bit too intimidating and who just want a dress that’s easy to wear which doesn’t require them to sport an attitude to go along with it–although the attitude is optional, should you want to partake in it.

Photoshoot Bloopers & Outtakes [Round 10]

I always leave it way too long between blooper sets, often because I’m too backed up with collaborations, but also because they take so much longer to do than I think they do, so they’re not the easy-to-schedule posts that I like to tell myself they are. As a result, I have literally hundreds of bloopers stored up that I can share with you, so in this downtime between the end of the summer and before the AW18 season begins to really ramp up, I gift you now with another installment of me looking stupid and messing up shots. You’re welcome!

Hogwarts Houses Vintage Style: Ravenclaw

This is is, kiddos, we’re at our final Hogwarts House styling post, with my OG house, Ravenclaw. While there’s endless stories I could tell about the way Potter has intersected with my life and vastly improved it, in an ode to Ravenclaw house I wanted to focus in this post upon the books more purely, and my favourite aspects and characters from them.

Hogwarts Houses Vintage Style: Gryffindor

Here we are, fellow wizards, we’re over halfway through the Houses. I’ve already styled Hufflepuff and Slytherin in a vintage Amy style, and today we look at Gryffindor, along with my story of how the series lead me to face up to some of my deepest anxieties and how it resulted in my flying across the world to attend the wedding of someone I’d never met.

Hogwarts Houses Vintage Style: Slytherin

If you missed last week’s posting kick off my Hogwarts Houses Vintage Style series, you can find it here. I began by styling a Hufflepuff themed outfit and by telling the story of how I got into the Potter series. This week I’m focusing on Slytherin, the house for which I would be most ill-fitted, and touching on how the series lead me to make new friends and deal with my dad’s death.

July Outfits Round Up

It’s still hot here, blah blah blah, heatwave, pale English people unequipped, blah blah blah.

You get the gist, right? We’re all fed up of it, all over the world, and honestly it’s a wonder my pasty English arse bothered to get pinned up at all this month, because the humidity is slowly sapping us all of strength. We did have one rainy day, though, which gave me the chance to wear one of my winter dresses, which was genuinely exciting, so that was fun.

Hogwarts Houses Vintage Style: Hufflepuff

I suppose it’s possible there could be regular readers of this blog who don’t know that I’m a big Harry Potter fan, but following this post that won’t be likely. Because after at least a year of having this idea sitting in my drafts folder, I’ve finally carved out the time to create this styling series that was suggested by my good friend Mand; the Hogwarts houses, vintage style.

Once a week for the next four weeks I’ll be creating a vintage style outfit in the theme of each of the Hogwarts houses, and dedicating each post to sharing some of my own Potter story; how I got into the series, the friends I’ve made along the way, how my dad’s death entwined with my love of the books, why these books meant I traveled across the world to attend the wedding of someone I had never met, and, of course, which Hogwarts house I’m in. I’ll also be adding in snippets about my favourite characters, favourite book, and which parts of the story have most touched me.

Today, we’re going to start with Hufflepuff, the house of kindness, patience, hard work, loyalty and fair play. And, kind of more importantly, the house of yellow, because hello mustard!

Glorious Gigi [Retrospec’d]

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of vintage inspired companies in our little vintage-loving corner of the fashion world that produce beautiful designs for us to wear, twirl in, and generally fawn over. As someone who doesn’t have the time, money, accessibility or motivation to search out true vintage in my size, I am vastly grateful for and fond of these companies that produce modern examples of vintage styled beauty all over the world for likewise ladies who can’t have or don’t want closets full of true vintage.

One of my favourite such companies producing modern takes on vintage gems is Retrospec’d. Founded and run by two sisters, Sharon and Teena, they were inspired by their vast collection of true vintage to produce fabulous dresses for all woman, regardless of size or age. Retrospec’d produces high quality items that are made in Australia, all painstakingly and lovingly designed by that dynamic sisterly duo, right down to the perfection of every print and pattern. The result is gorgeous dresses that feel the most authentically vintage of any other reproduction company currently sharing the market.

This particular dress, the Enchanted Fleur Gigi, is a dress of that exact ilk, stopping my thumb in mid-scroll the first time I ever saw it because I couldn’t believe it wasn’t a true vintage piece. Despite my immediate love for it, it took me months and months before I finally got my eager little hands on it, but I’m so glad I did. Enchanted indeed!

Lipsticks As Pretty As Vintage [Lola Von Rose]

Lola Von Rose vegan cruelty free made in USA vintage liquid lipsticks gold Miss Amy May

We all have our favourite liquid lipstick, typically as a result of having tried and tested about 15 formulas that provided varying degrees of successful wear. They all usually promise the same thing, long-lasting highly pigmented colour, which is what we all want and need to finish off our vintage look with a red lip that won’t need touching up every other hour. Whether your favourite liquid lipstick is high end or drugstore, there’s one thing I can guarantee it doesn’t give you that Lola Von Rose lipsticks do; your old favourite definitely isn’t providing you with this level of glamorous vintage-look packaging.
