Ho-Ho-Ho-Holly Berries [Hell Bunny]

It’s the first week of December, so that means it’s time; time for abandoning your shame when you find yourself humming All I Want For Christmas in the middle of the workday; time for saying ‘it’s Christmas, it’s fine’ when you make several awful food choices in a row in a single day even if it is waaay too early in the month to be getting that lax with your nutrition; time for climbing into the attic to get down the decorations and for gift buying (or wrapping already, if you’re super organised); and time, finally, for unapologetically Christmassy outfits, like this Holly Berry 50s dress from Hell Bunny.

November Outfits Round Up

YOU GUYS, CHRISTMAS IS COMING! I’m aware not everyone celebrates that holiday, nor even that everyone even likes it, but I start thinking about Christmas in about mid October, at the latest, and I only have 3 gifts left to buy, so I’m already feeling pretty tingly with the festive spirit. As such, it’s taken a real effort of restraint not to start incorporating that feeling into my outfits this month, but I managed to resist and instead focused on the fact that it still feels a lot like the height of autumn thanks to the autumn leaves that are still holding strong out there–isn’t the autumn colour normally done by now?? It feels so weird to still have plenty of trees left to change their leaves, let alone lose them.

Still, for now I’ll try to keep my humming of Christmas songs quiet enough that most people can’t hear them, while I mentally begin to plan all my December outfits for maximum festivity!

Soft Leopard, Black Dress [Miss Candyfloss]

I’ve never been one for wearing a lot of black, but over the last six months or so I’ve found myself becoming increasingly more drawn to wearing black clothing. Even now, the idea of a solid black dress doesn’t really interest me, not unless it’s a wiggle dress, as the sexy screen siren feel of that silhouette overpowers my desire for there to be an aspect of true interest punctuating the black.

With swing dresses, though, I need there to be an element of interest to break up the expanse of black to keep my interest, a layering of different or unusual textures, a contrasting fabric panel or trim. This Vivianne-Lou dress from Miss Candyfloss delivers on that specification with glamorous exactitude, the simple and generally modest cut of the plain black dress elevated by the velvet-touch leopard print in the collar and matching belt, adding a sexy and exotic feel.

Mara, Ruby Red [Lulu Hun]

Here’s the thing about London Edge: there’s so many pretty things everywhere that the volume of them is almost numbing and you begin to act a bit like a greedy toddler hopped up on sugar in a vast toy store, leafing through the racks and mumbling ‘want, want, want’ about practically all the lovely things, far more than you could ever conceivably buy.

It can take some serious self-restraint and concentration to organise your photo taking and mental cataloging throughout the day in order to best use the event as a way to plan out your purchases for the upcoming season being previewed. Sometimes I end up mentally dog-earring items I change my mind about later once they actually come into stock, when the druggish enthusiasm of the day has worn off. Considering that, my favourite part of the whole experience comes in the moments when a piece is so gorgeous that it will literally make me pause, my whole body stilling while my mouth gapes. When I’m there with friends I turn with wide eyes to look at them, wordlessly holding out the dress or skirt or bag, and said friends, often Giselle, will say ‘Oh you need that. That is so you.’ I feel validated and gratified. It IS so me, yes, thank you for acknowledging that; I must have it.

Just such a scene happened as I rounded a set of shelves at the Collectif booth in September and clapped eyes on the Lulu Hun Mara heels, this time pointing them out, mouth wide, in glee to Collectif’s own designer Julia. I feel that same glee here today to be able to finally get these sweet, classic little ruby cuties on my feet.

Golden Leaves [Lady V London]

They say everyone has one base neutral colour they most utilise in their wardrobe, either black, navy or brown, and I’ve always been someone that is drawn in equal parts to navy and black, with no gravitational pull towards brown at all. This autumn, though, I’ve begun to notice that I’ve finally begun to appreciate brown and all it has to offer in complimenting the shades of fall especially. With this Lady V London dress that feeling became fully solidified, because look at this precious example of a golden fall evening personified!

My Fair Lady [Dancing Days/Banned]

Another day, another plaid beauty to add to my closet, because I am beyond help. Although, actually, this time I can’t even be blamed for my obsessive collecting of all tartan and plaid pinup pieces because Dancing Days picked out this outfit for me. That’s right, this time my friends can’t even roll their eyes or laugh at me in bemused exasperation, because I was 100% faultlessly enabled in adding yet more plaid to my wardrobe. Thanks Dancing Days for giving me the perfect excuse, in the form of a wonderful dress. Let’s take a gleeful, guilt-free look at it!

October Outfits Round Up

October was kind of a quiet month, I feel like my friends spent a lot of it being sick or busy so it both dragged and rushed by with the decrease of usual socialising. But the leaves are turning and it’s getting a bit crisp out without being too cold yet, so I’m loving the true arrival of Autumn. Plus, judge me if you must, but I’m already starting to feel festive! So bring it on, November, I’m ready to celebrate the birthdays of some of my favourites and then begin my Christmas gift shopping!

Hanging with Zoe & Diana [Collectif + Lulu Hun]

Look, I know you know this about me, because I’ve said it multiple times here on the blog but it’s important and it bears repeating: I love burgundy. I love it all year round but in the colder months it really comes into it’s own. Just think about it–crisp golden leaves beginning to fall from the trees, a slight bite starting to creep into the early mornings, just enough that you wake up wondering if you should have porridge for breakfast even though no one wants to eat porridge over Marmite toast or a cereal that is more cookies than nutrition. And there hanging on the front of your wardrobe, visible from the warm snuggliness of your bed, a perfectly crisp burgundy shirt dress, ready to be layered up and worn out into the world like you’re a dose of festive mulled wine.

Well that’s the Zoe dress from Collectif and I am all about it.

Feelin’ Teal [Miss Candyfloss]

I’m gonna state this up front so you don’t get to the end of this blog post and get upset: both of these items are out of stock from Miss Candyfloss directly. But! But but but! I’m not just torturing you with pretty outfits you absolutely cannot find anywhere ever ever. Would I do that to you? Of course not (…as long as I could help it.) I’ll add links to all the places you can still find these items in stock at the end of this post, but for now, let’s just bask in the badassery of these perfectly spy-tastic pieces.

I Zig, You Zag [Collectif]

Sometimes I go through phases of collecting certain things for my wardrobe. Normally it’s a binge of a specific item, like handbags in colours I’ve realised I don’t have but need for new outfit pairing ideas. So, suddenly, I might begin buying several pairs of summer wedges, or flats, or long sleeved tops, or hair accessories. The focus is always on fulfilling a hole in my closet, an under represented category that would allow me to create more diverse and more interesting outfits once that category has been properly curated. Lately, one such binge has been for patterned cardigans.

I fell for this Collectif chevron piece the very first moment I saw it pop up on their website. It was one of their earliest released items from their AW17 line, but it recently got a restock so I’m thrilled to now be able to add it to my wardrobe. It definitely fills a small but gaping hole that my wardrobe and I were eager to see addressed.
