Chic Atop Chic [Fascinators Direct]

There are many industries that have been hard hit this year by the pandemic, one of them being the wedding industry. Sellers and vendors both big and small found their sales dropped off sharply as weddings were postponed and cancelled all over the country, including my younger sister’s. It can sometimes feel like there are so many small businesses to support that one isn’t sure where it’s best to spend one’s money, and it’s true that one person can only do so much. One of the excellent things about the vintage loving community, though, is that the notion of dressing for events is slightly redundant for us, because we love getting dressed up all the time. That makes us excellent candidates for supporting businesses like today’s feature, Fascinators Direct, a Brighton-based fascinators and hat company–because, hey, if sassy mid-century loving folks don’t know how to rock some killer headwear, then who does??

Tamrika Love [Miss Candyfloss]

Certain colours get largely overlooked in the vintage style world, one of which I would say is khaki. It wouldn’t typically be a colour I would pine for, so close to me is its association to the multi-purpose trousers that were trendy when I was 11, but Miss Candyfloss can make any colour work, and goddamnit if they haven’t produced a stunning dress in the Tamrika-Sand!

Teal Petals [Miss Candyfloss]

There are certain design features that were utilized in mid-century clothing designs that just don’t get the appropriate level of use and adoration today as they should. One such feature is the petal neckline, but my goodness have Miss Candyfloss done it beautiful justice with this teal stunner.

A Jaunt to Brooklyn [Hell Bunny]

I’ll be the first to admit I have a lot of coats. Enough to cover all the bases–rainy weather, only slightly chilly, full on freezing, somewhat casual, full on glamour. I thought I had pretty much everything I needed, especially since I have two coats that feature faux fur. But it occurred to me that I don’t have a more ‘casual’ coat (but my standards) that also has faux fur. Because, as it turns out, that totally exists, and it’s awesome!

Freya and Rachel [Belbeina Lee]

I am obsessed with Belbeina Lee. Everything she makes is stunning, whether it’s an original design or a piece inspired by a true vintage item; they both generate the same effect, which is me falling in love and adding yet another fabulous hat to my wishlist. Since it’s been a crappy year I recently decided to treat myself to two brand spanking new Belbeina Lee pieces, and my goodness, they more than live up to my expectations, just as they always do.

Marvellous Midge [Unique Vintage]

There are some things that just feel extra special when done in autumn; drinking hot chocolate, going for a brisk walk in nature, digging out your favourite cosy cardigans and blankets, and wearing certain colours. Sure, jewel tones look great all year round, but burgundy, in autumn, when the leaves on the ground act as a gradient of colour building in pigment towards the same maroon you’re wearing–well, that’s a fall delight.

Starry Eyed [Unique Vintage]

The vintage-lovers community has a lot of overlap with several other aesthetic communities, one of the most popular of which–or so it seems to me–is the ~*witchy*~ community. That’s never been a vibe that’s interested me, but I’ll tell you what, today’s gown can veer witchy-cute as well as full Hollywood glam and I’m totally here for it.
