Deanna Perfection [Chi Chi Clothing]

I’ve developed a bit of a thing lately for Chi Chi Clothing. After getting the Rosa dress, I’ve fallen for their more vintage inspired pieces, all of which tend to be tea length and sport stiffer fabrics and expert pleating that create a full vintage skirt look without the need for a petticoat. It means they’re great pieces for summer when a petticoat can be unwanted extra warmth, and they’re also beautiful evening wear pieces that look classic and stylish year round. I’ve begun stalking their New In section recently to make sure I don’t miss out on anything good, which is when I came across this gorgeous Deanna dress.

A grey-black dress with red, white, pale gold and olive green floral embroidery, this dress immediately makes me thing of Christmas and winter and glamorous dark evenings. The embroidery was designed with Spanish inspirations in mind, and I can see that too, but it’s the winter Christmas feels I most love. I was a bit uncertain when I first tried it on whether I should keep it, as I was splashing out on another one of their dresses for sure and my American trip (and it’s expenses) is right around the corner. But I asked my Instagram followers whether I should get this dress too and their Insta-shouted at me that OMG OF COURSE YOU KEEP IT IT IS GORGEOUS WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT WHY WOULD YOU SEND IT BACK HOW DARE YOU SHUT UP AND BUY IT. And they were totally right. I had a mild lapse in closet-judgement due to focusing on finances. It was silly of me. It won’t happen again. Because lookit!

September Outfits Round Up

Autumn is here! And I have mostly been ignoring that fact! I keep meaning to bust out the mustard yellows and the plummy purples and the moody reds, but so far I’ve been wearing a lot of white after Labor Day like a bad bitch–Labor Day isn’t a thing here in the UK, so it doesn’t matter, but even if I was I still would not give up my white cardigans for anyone. Y’all can eat your fashion rules.

It’s been an awesome month. With my recent trip back to Frome to model again for Deadly Is The Female and a Very Potter Weekend spent with some of my darling pinup buddies touring the Harry Potter Studio Tour in pinup versions of our favourite Potter characters, there’s been some fun playtime in my wardrobe choices this month.

Viva La Rosa [Chi Chi Clothing]

It’s not often I find a new non-pinup clothing brand these days that I actually like, you know, on account of them being non-pinup. Finding Chi Chi London recently, therefore, was awesome.

A UK clothing brand, they produce clothing with lots of feminine design details: lace, floral prints, embroidery, off the shoulder necklines, sheer overlays, satin finishes, and cinched waists. Most of their dresses are midi length or at least knee length, passably retro to my delight, and they also offer petite and plus size ranges, another bonus. There’s a lot of very pretty dresses on their site currently that I like, but when I saw the Rosa dress I fell in love. A day after discovering Chi Chi, Rosa was on her way to me thanks to the help of a 20% off discount code, one of the many discount codes and sales I’ve seen Chi Chi offer just over the past month alone that I’ve been aware of them.

July Outfits Round Up

Another month gone and it’s been a cracker! This month not only did I host Jenny July, which means there’s a whole host of Jenny centric outfits to go over in this post, but I also had the pleasure of meeting Pinup Girl Clothing’s founder, owner and head designer, Laura Byrnes. If any of you have ever noticed just how PUG heavy some of my outfit wrap up posts have been some months and goggled at how much PUG that must mean I own, I can assure you that nothing was more difficult than deciding which pieces to wear to meet the Supreme Overlord of my favourite brand.

That glory aside, July has been a weird month of temperature fluctuations, with some hottest-day-of-the-year highs and some drizzly, autumnal lows, so this wrap up should involve a strange mix for a mid-summer month. It also features me wearing my hair up more times in one month than I have probably done total for the entire rest of the year up until now.

Sweet, Fair Isabella [Lady V London]

The Isabella dress by Lady V London isn’t a new design for the company, but as it’s rapidly approaching summer they’ve added a lovely selection of new prints to their SS line of the style. When an email announcing as such hit my inbox last week the pink rose on cream floral colourway immediately caught my eye. A few days later, thanks to the generosity of Lady V, I had it in my happy little hands (and on my body) ready to show you why I fell for it.

I love this colourway. I know that will surprise some of you as I am nothing if not outspoken about my almost-all-encompassing hatred of the colour pink, but one of the few ways I can not only stand the shade, but indeed like it, is when included in floral prints, especially when balanced out with touches of green or blue. This print, therefore, is perfect. The cream background keeps this print from being ‘too girly’ for a girl like me whose sentiments typically run somewhere between the bold and the classic, and the latter is certainly a perfect word for this print. 2014 in Outfits

2014 saw my style evolve from newbie pinup to fully-fledged, fully-confident pinup. I thought that transformation was mostly internal until I looked back at these collages and saw all the small changes I had made throughout the 12 months last passed, from ditching my jeans altogether even for runs to the supermarket to a marked, marked improvement in my hair game. Scroll through below to see my year’s worth of OOTD’s as I posted to Instagram.

Umbrella Pinup

brv9

I recently came across Bitter Root Vintage for the first time, a charming company that offers a selection of dresses, separates and accessories. They stock plenty of lovely repro items as well as some non-repro items which are also incredibly pretty and still classy, able to be styled in a retro fashion should you wish. For my first BRV dress I chose one of their repro style dresses, of course, namely Polly//All The Umbrellas In Paris.

This is a beautiful dress. The print is delicate and pretty, something that’s new for me because the prints I favour are often bold or bright, making this dress a lovely departure for me. I love the piping detail along the waistline and shoulders, and the little buttons on the cinched waist. Also, the name itself is just downright adorable. All The Umbrellas In Paris? Too cute! I couldn’t resist incorporating some of that umbrella whimsy into this blog shoot while I showed you this dress in action. Continue reading
