Hey There Deliliah [Voodoo Vixen]

Okay, so maybe this post isn’t named with all that much original brilliance, particularly since it’s a real near-miss with the name, but the dress it focuses on offers enough to make up for it. It is, of course, the wonderful Deliliah dress by Voodoo Vixen.

Every season I say it’s Voodoo Vixen’s best season yet, and considering the utter gem that is the Violet dress I already reviewed a few weeks back and now this delightful Deliliah, it’s kind of no wonder. Both dresses are fresh, fun and ready to be worn out in the sun, and with Deliliah now in my hands I’ll be doing just that. This green, those daisies, these pockets! My, someone hold my handbag because I sure do feel faint.

Take Me to Monte Carlo [Hell Bunny]

Hell Bunny always offer up such a varied, fun selection of prints for their summer lines, and this year is no exception. I’ve already featured a dose of their lemons and a view of their lighthouses, and today it’s time to journey with them to Monte Carlo, playground of the rich and famous.

While I’d love to be able to feature this dress set against a backdrop of the glamorous principality by which it was inspired, this country girl has instead been enjoying it on fresh spring walks, the occasional seaside trip and lots of garden hangs. Thankfully, it’s a dress so fun and flattering it looks good no matter where you wear it.

Del Ray Of Sunshine [Unique Vintage]

I’m certainly not known for being afraid of bright colours, but even I’ve got to admit the Del Ray dress by Unique Vintage might be taking that love of brights to new heights.

I saw it previewed at London Edge back in February and featured it then in my review post among my favourite picks from UV’s upcoming line, so its fearlessly bold striped print definitely captured me right from the off. Still, when it arrived and I pulled it from its bag, unfurling it before me in the air of a dim English morning, I had the slightest moment of pause: wow, was it too bright for me? Within a split second I had remembered myself: Nah! I’m good.

Let’s do this Del Ray, you beautifully obnoxious burst of Californian sunshine!

Lana in My Life [Dolly & Dotty]

At this point it’s got to be redundant when I talk about how much I love all things nautical, right? So I won’t. I’ll say instead that while this Lana dress by Dolly & Dotty is striped and fits a nautical themed styling easily, beautifully even, the dress itself technically isn’t nautical. It’s just a lovely white and navy striped number that comes with a red belt, fitting that red, white and blue colour scheme that’s so closely associated with all things seaside, beach front and sailing that it’s evocatively on trend in that area without so much as a flash of an anchor or glimpse of a sail.

Oh, huh. I guess I utterly failed at talking about nautical things after all anyway. Damnit!

But, still, you get my point. This Lana dress isn’t technically a nautical novelty, it’s just a comfortable striped sun dress that I couldn’t help but style with a nautical flair because I am a predictable red, white and blue loving maniac. Sorrynotsorry.

April Outfits Round Up

I am so psyched that April has been such a good weather month for me. Most shocking of all is that the best weather we had took place over the weekend when I went to Edinburgh on a little trip–Edinburgh! In Scotland! AKA the land of wind and rain. When my friend Giselle and I booked that trip we braced ourselves for the likelihood of bad weather and sodden hair, but we got nothing but clear skies and a happy sun. I even got a little bit sunburned on my chest the day we went to the Botanical Gardens. (I know, I’m super white. Sunburned in Scotland, FFS.) I had hoped I would manage better outfit pictures while I was away, so I apologies for the mirror selfies as they all I could remember to snap at the time. Oh how time flies when you’re having fun!

Comfort in Stripes [Dolly & Dotty]

Come on, you must know by now that I’m a little bit crazy for nautical colour combinations. Give me red, white and navy, give me anchors, give me stripes! I just don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. But I suppose, sigh, that it is sensible sometimes to have separates that can make up a nautical outfit but don’t have to, that can be paired with other pieces for a different kind of look. I mean, I guess.

These pieces from Dolly & Dotty both indulge my nautical love and gift me with a somewhat reluctant possibility of versatility.

Glasshouse Fairy [Collectif + Lulu Hun]

The Fairy Doll dress by Collectif is one of their staple dresses that receives new print and colourway releases every spring/summer. This year the offerings are tropical themed samples of deliciousness, and I’ve been eagerly waiting for this orange and green combo of bamboo summer fun to be released since I saw the preview of SS17 last September.

I knew I loved the dress instantly purely for its vibrant print, but I didn’t realise it was going to be such a comfortable, easy wear. With no zips and only stretchy, stretchy smocking, this is a perfect dress for wearing on hot summer days when tight waistbands can pinch and rub as your body temperature rises. Plus, that stretch factor means it’s an excellent dress for travelling in both style and comfort, something I appreciated massively when I wore it this past weekend in the hot glasshouses of the Royal Edinburgh Botanical gardens and walking round the gorgeous (but hilly) city.

All Set, All Set [Lindy Bop]

I am a sucker for mustard. The colour only, not the condiment. If you try to put English mustard on my plate for Sunday roast, I will make sure it doesn’t touch any of my delicious, sacred food. If you put American mustard on my hot dog, as happened to me last summer after an hour’s wait in line at the seaside one summer evening, I will be full of rage. But the colour–that I can’t get enough of.

It’s no great surprise, therefore, that when I saw this mustard yellow Marianne set from Lindy Bop my reaction was ‘Yes please!’ I have mustard cardigans, accessories and shoes so far, but no swing dress, despite my wardrobe being about 90% swing dresses. So, really, it kind of had to happen.

March Outfits Round Up

Spring is heeere (mostly) and it is glorious. I’ve loved fishing out my summer dresses from storage to swap them for my darker, heavier winter duds. Tropical prints, bright colours and pastels have made me so happy to throw on each time I go out, making me feel like spring even on days that the weather perhaps hasn’t done it’s part in representing the season. Plus, I’m so excited that even more SS17 releases will be trickling out over the next month or two, so bring on the summery dresses!

Sweet Violet [Voodoo Vixen]

The first time I clapped eyes on this Voodoo Vixen dress was in the briefest glimpse of a behind the scenes snapshot Miss Victory Violet posted on Instagram while she was modelling it for their SS17 catalogue. It was instant love, immediate obsession. Never mind that all I could see of it was the neckline, never mind that the picture was a selfie more so than a dress sneak peek. That neckline was all I needed to know that it would be a perfect vintage morsel, and a bestseller to boot. I was not wrong.
