If there’s one thing for which I can be relied upon, it’s trying out new liquid lipstick formulas I don’t need because a) I already own ‘too many’ lipsticks, and b) I already have 2 liquid lipstick formulas in my collection I absolutely love. There’s always the promise, though, the slight chance that a new product might not only live up to my existing favourites but possibly, just maybe, have that one additional factor that tops them. It’s very unlikely, but we can all dream, can’t we? Continue reading

Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon Swatches & Review

Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon in Own Your Empire
I’ll warn you all up front that this is going to be a quick review that lacks some of the images or details I would usually like to include in a new product review because these lipsticks aren’t just new, they’re NEW new. To the extent that when I was in Superdrug this morning and noticed these Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayons, it was something that surprised me–not only had I not heard any pre-release hype about them online but once I did a quick google, I couldn’t find anything about them. My Current Favourites
It’s been an odd couple months with my plantar fasciitis and piriformis syndrome impeding my ability to shoot outfits as regularly as I usually would, so I thought I’d share with you some of the new things I’ve been trialing or enjoying lately that have become some of my new favourites. From makeup and skincare to footwear and audiobooks, it’s a mixed bag of fun!
Sleep Easy, Heat Free [Curlettes]

Hair set with medium Curlettes
If there was one part of adopting the vintage style that I would say was the most difficult for me, it was the hair. Weirdly, that is also the part of the whole look that I tackled first, without even really intending to adopt the entire look altogether. I just wanted to have nice curls again, achieved in a heat-free way, after extreme heat styling had damaged my natural curls beyond repair.
I began with pincurls. Over time they became my favourite method of setting my hair even after I branched out into trying different types of rollers, whether bendy, Velcro, or foam, but in the beginning learning the technique and achieving a good brush out was a laborious, long-winded and often frustrating experience. I don’t regret it, because eventually I learned the pincurling technique well, but if a Pinup Godmother had come to me then, back at the beginning, and said ‘here, you can achieve a lovely vintage set with these handmade crocheted rollers which are, by the way, also comfortable to sleep in,’ I probably would have cried. Baby Pinup Amy didn’t know about Curlettes, but Present Day Pinup Amy does, and she’s a fan.
Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink City Edition Swatches + Review

Top to bottom: Composer, Founder, Ground-Breaker, Dancer, Artist, Inspirer
Maybelline’s Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks are, hands down, my favourite lipstick. They are as close to infallible as I’ve ever found a lip colour to be, able to survive even eating a burger with only minimal wear-off on the inner lip, and their slightly tacky but transfer-proof feel keeps them comfortable all day.
Their original launch included 10 colours, followed by their Un-nude collection which included 10 more in, as the name suggests, both expected and unexpected neutral tones. Their latest expansion, the City Edition, adds 10 more shades to the range, but I struggled to find any swatches of the shades online when the colours launched. Impatient as I am, I did as much sleuthing as I could online before winging it with an order for the shades I thought most likely to suit me from Superdrug.com, where they were included in their famous 3 for 2 offer.
I’ve got 6 of the 10 new shades swatched and detailed for you below; Composer, Founder, Ground-Breaker, Dancer, Artist and Inspirer. Let’s go!
Avoiding a Bad Hair Day: Wigs, Clip Ins & Turbans

Once upon a time the only hairstyle I rocked as a pinup was my brushed out pincurl sets. It worked for me well enough and it was something I was so comfortable with that I didn’t want to dedicate any time or effort into experimenting with different hairstyles and accessories. That changed in 2016 when I experienced a brief brush with Alopecia (here’s the full post about my experience.)
Lipsticks As Pretty As Vintage [Lola Von Rose]

We all have our favourite liquid lipstick, typically as a result of having tried and tested about 15 formulas that provided varying degrees of successful wear. They all usually promise the same thing, long-lasting highly pigmented colour, which is what we all want and need to finish off our vintage look with a red lip that won’t need touching up every other hour. Whether your favourite liquid lipstick is high end or drugstore, there’s one thing I can guarantee it doesn’t give you that Lola Von Rose lipsticks do; your old favourite definitely isn’t providing you with this level of glamorous vintage-look packaging.
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink + Un-Nude Release
Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte Ink liquid lipstick has been raved about on every social media platform and beauty vlog since its release last year. Honestly, if you haven’t tried it already I’d be really surprised, but going by the number of women who ask me for lipstick recommendations who then say they hadn’t tried this product there’s still some of you out there who haven’t taken the leap. The new Un-Nudes range of shades has just launched here in the UK so I decided it was time to whip up a quick review for those of you who might be unconvinced this product is worth all the hype.

My Secret Brush with Alopecia
Yes, yes I am starting this blog post with a pun-tastic title name. No, I’m not sorry. Now let’s do this.
As you will see as I tell the full story, I got very lucky that the bout of alopecia I suffered in the summer of 2016 was (knock on wood) a one-off, very mild, and will hopefully not return. But from the moment it happened I had a very weird feeling that I would have to tell all of my readers and followers about it. Not necessarily because I wanted to, but because I felt with the following I have across my social media platforms that I should. That I owed it to people, not merely to be honest but more importantly to be open, to share something that is difficult and sensitive and not so typical. So here I am, much further on in time than I imagined this blog post would go up, telling you about that time I lost some of my hair and was fucking terrified by it. Continue reading
Rimmel Wonder Wing & Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick Review
There’s been some great new drugstore makeup releases over the last few months, including some new liner and liquid lipstick products. Even though I’ve found my favourite makeup products that I reach for time and again after 4 years of wearing winged liner and red lips, I still regularly find myself curious enough to try new drugstore products of this ilk.
I often get asked what my favourite red lipstick is and my reply of ‘Saigon’ or ‘Creeper’ Ultra Mattes by Colourpop isn’t as accessible for many, especially European readers, as a brand available on the high street or in your local mall, so I’m pleased to bring you great news today about Rimmel’s StayMatte liquid lipstick range. Their Wonder Wing liner pen, though? Hmm, that might be more of a mixed bag review. Let’s get to it.
